NEW DELHI — Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing an end to a 12-year career in the format.
The 36-year-old confirmed his decision in a social media post on Friday. He also said he would continue playing white-ball cricket.
Shami made his Test debut against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 6, 2013. He represented India in 64 Tests, taking 229 wickets at an average of 27.71. His record includes six five-wicket hauls.
Known for his ability to generate swing and seam movement with both the new and old ball, Shami was a key member of India's pace attack across different conditions.
His final Test appearance came in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in London. Injuries later affected his availability for the national side.
Shami's retirement marks the end of an important chapter in Indian Test cricket, although he will remain available for limited-overs formats.
