New Delhi: The central government has issued a warning in the wake of rising covid cases in countries including China. Apart from China, there are also reports of rising cases of Covid cases in Japan, America, Korea and Brazil. The Union Health Ministry has written to the National Center for Disease Control and the Indian Council for Medical Research.

The Center has sent a letter to the states after the news that the cases of Covid are increasing in China and the US. The Ministry of Health's move is to monitor the genetic change of covid viruses by increasing genome sequencing of positive cases by tracking coronavirus variants using the INSACOG network system.
The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) is a consortium of more than 50 laboratories to monitor genetic variations in the Covid-19 virus. Genome sequencing is a technique used to identify and understand the characteristics of the covid virus and to observe the genetic change.
The Union Health Ministry has directed the states to immediately send the samples of the Covid-positive cases to the gene sequencing laboratories for testing. Health Department Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has made it clear in his letter to the states to continuously monitor whether there are new covid variants.
According to the letter sent by the Union Health Secretary, the process of gene sequencing of samples of positive cases through the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium Network to detect variants of the virus needs to be accelerated.
