Khyber: Pakistan, which is facing economic crisis, is experiencing a huge price hike and shortage of cooking gas. So people are trying to collect as much cooking gas as possible.
Instead of gas cylinders, videos of people carrying cooking gas to their homes in huge plastic containers have gone viral on social media. The footage is from the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Accumulation of cooking gas in such a dangerous manner is in anticipation of impending shortages. This is how gas agencies fill cooking gas in plastic covers. A valve may be attached to the plastic cover. This is how gas is used.
Shortage of gas and supply of petroleum products at higher prices have led to price hikes and sparked protest movements. Compounding the problem is the high cost of cylinders used to store and transport gas. Gas cylinders, often made of carbon steel or steel alloy, cost around 10,000 Pakistani rupees ($45, €42.3), traders say.
"These reusable bags are sold at 500-900 rupees ($2.3-$4) each, depending on the size, while the price of the compressor ranges from 1,500-2,000 rupees, depending on the size. People use them in villages and urban centers," he said.
Authorities have recently taken strict action against the use of plastic bags to store gas. The public utility outlawed it, declaring it a security threat. Peshawar city officials this month arrested 16 shopkeepers for selling such bags.
Islamabad-based medical officer at the Burn Care Center of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Quratulain said their facility receives eight patients a day from gas-related accidents, one or two of whom are seriously injured.
