Dublin: Covid on the rise in Ireland. The number of patients hospitalized with Covid-19 today stands at 723, down 14 cases from yesterday.
35 of these patients are in the ICU, an increase of three from yesterday's count.
As of December 27, more than 700 people were hospitalized with Covid-19. A week ago, 655 people were infected with the virus and were in hospital.
The Health Service Executive reported 703 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in hospitals across the country as of 8 am on December 27. On December 23, 667 people were infected with the virus and were in the hospital.
The new figures come amid concerns that socializing over the Christmas period could lead to an increase in cases.
In the days leading up to Christmas, Chief Medical Officer Professor Breda Smith had urged people to stay at home and avoid visiting family if they had flu-like symptoms. Professor Smith expressed concern about the rise in coronavirus hospital admissions and called on people to make a concerted effort over the next four to six weeks to reduce transmission.
