Islamabad: Pakistan is reeling under "Misery, Unemployment, Poverty". We also learned from war. The new statement calls on the United Arab Emirates to resolve differences between the two neighbours.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for talks with India to discuss burning issues like Kashmir.

Sharif, who last week called the UAE a "brotherly country", said in an interview with Al Arabiya aired on Tuesday: "I will give my word that we will talk to India sincerely,

"My message to the Indian leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is that we can sit at the table and have serious and sincere discussions to resolve our burning issues like Kashmir," Sharif said.

The Himalayan region of Kashmir has been a flashpoint between the two countries since independence from British rule in 1947. Since then, the two nuclear-armed neighbors have fought three wars, two of which were against Kashmir.

“We are neighbors. Let's be very blunt. Although we are not neighbors by choice, we are there forever and it is up to us to live in peace. We have learned our lessons. We have fought three wars with India and the consequences of those wars have only brought more misery, unemployment and poverty,” he said.

Terming the Indian government's actions in Kashmir as "blatant violations of human rights on a daily basis", Sharif said both countries should think about their future.

"This has to stop, so we are ready to negotiate with India and we are more ready to talk and we want to turn our resources into instruments of prosperity... That is the message I want to give to Modi," he said.

Sharif’s message to India came at a time when Pakistan is facing an acute economic crisis, forcing the government to close malls and restaurants early. The South Asian nation’s finances were also impacted last year by a devastating flood that displaced nearly 3.3 crore people of its 23 crore population.

Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have dwindled to alarmingly low levels. To pay for energy imports, the country needs foreign currency, especially United States dollars.

The country has sought monetary assistance from nations like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and China. Last week, Saudi Arabia said it would consider increasing the kingdom’s assistance and investments in Pakistan to $10 billion (Rs 81,763 crore) from $1 billion (Rs 8,176 crore), reported The Wall Street Journal.
