New York: If you're a legal practitioner, an artificial intelligence (AI) robot may soon be coming for your job. The World's First Robot Lawyer In 2015, Joshua Browder launched a company called DoNoPay as a chatbot designed to provide legal advice to clients struggling with late fees or fines.
Five years later, he transitioned the company to an AI model. Now, the software he developed is billed as "the world's first robot lawyer." According to the New York Post, the product is set to take on its first court case, thanks to the help of AI, and will help the defendant in the legal battle to fight the traffic ticket.
Where did the company start?
Browder, who became an "expert" at finding loopholes to avoid paying fines while racking up parking tickets while studying at Stanford University, said he created the company "by accident." Now, the founder aims to use his creation to eliminate the extensive fees consumers face from racking up parking tickets.
Browder believes he has created a solution not only to help people avoid paying tickets, but also the legal fees associated with hiring an attorney to help them fight their case. "This company's goal is to make $200 billion in legal work free for consumers," Browder said. According to Browder, the time taken to train the application, which covers a wide range of topics in case law, is huge because the goal is to replace certain types of lawyers altogether to save people money.
"There will still be a lot of good lawyers out there arguing at the European Court of Human Rights, but there are a lot of lawyers who copy documents and charge too much, and I think they will definitely be replaced. They should be replaced," he explained.
